Dynasty Fantasy Football Rookie Larry Rountree III.
Our thoughts on 2021 dynasty fantasy football rookie Larry Rountree III.
Larry Rountree III, five-ten and a half, 211 pounds out of Missouri. Rountree was drafted in the sixth round by the Los Angeles Chargers. Larry ran a 4.68 forty-yard dash during his pro day, so he is not fast for an NFL running back. There has never been a pro bowl running back that ran a 4.6 forty or slower.
"He will only be fantasy relevant when Justin Jackson leaves."
We didn't see him performing well after contact, and he didn't look special in any way, but he is reliable. Rountree is not a guy that is going to put the ball in the ground while getting maybe three or four yards. Rountree displays decent vision, footwork, and toughness. He may, at best case, end up behind Austin Ekeler with Josh Kelly and when the Chargers move on from Justin Jackson.
Drafting Rountree can be seen as a depth move for the Chargers. We went back to the Packers drafting Aaron Jones in the 5th round to find a top running back drafted this late. Most running backs pop for a year or two but cannot sustain top-level production. Larry Rountree is a running back that falls into the never or underperforming category.
The Chargers isn't the worst place to land, but we don't see any meaningful production from Rountree, and at best, he ends up as a backup. Draft him and stash him on your taxi squad but don’t expect ever to use him.
