Dynasty Fantasy Football Rookie Kenneth Gainwell.

Our thoughts on 2021 dynasty fantasy football rookie Kenneth Gainwell.
Kenneth Gainwelll, 5’11, 195 pounds, was drafted by the Eagles. Finished college averaging 6.3 yards per carry and a target share of 13.8, putting him in the 91st percentile. In 2019 he had 1,459 rushing yards, 16 total touchdowns, and 51 receptions for 610 yards. Gainwell displayed his speed on his pro day with a 4.42 forty-yard dash.
"Gainwell can score from anywhere."
Gainwell possesses the balance and elusiveness you like to see with a good pass-catching running back and potentially the best catcher from this year’s rookie running backs. Lazy tackles won't do it, as defenders often dive into him or hit him with an arm tackle, and he powered through the attempt. If you missed him with the tackle, he accelerates in the open field and uses his quick feet to bounce the ball outside. Kenneth has the next gear when he’s in the second level, your home run hitter kind of guy. Gainwell can basically score any time he's got the ball in his hands with his speed and his receiving ability.
He only had one year of production due to COVID-19 opt-outs, so we have minimal information. His size may be a problem, and he could struggle to gain yards after contact in the NFL. He probably won’t be used as a short-yardage or goal-line guy. As with most rookie running backs, he's going to need some more work in pass protection, and it is not a massive hit unless he shows he can’t protect at all. It felt like he ran upright at times, but that could be related to him trying to set up a move. He is very patient but seldom seemed to run north and south.
Dynasty Outlook
When we talk about these players, we naturally have a first reaction, and the player I immediately thought of when watching Kenny Gainwell was Aaron Jones. If Aaron Jones hadn't have stayed in Green Bay, I think he could have taken over that role. We would have also liked to see him in Tennessee with Henry, but Henry gets too much work. Miles Sanders hasn’t shown that he can stay healthy, and Gainwell is the better backup. You may have to worry about losing goal line touches, but his playmaking ability should help him produce for your fantasy team.
