Fantasy Football Rookie Cornell Powell.
Our thoughts on 2021 dynasty fantasy football rookie Cornell Powell.
Cornell Powell was drafted in the fifth round by the Kansas City Chiefs. Powell is six-foot, 204 pounds, and the Chiefs just got rid of Sammy Watkins, who has been a roster just clogger since joining the Chiefs. That’s precisely what he does to his dynasty team. Cornell Powell ran a 4.52 forty-yard dash on his pro day. Powell lettered in both football and basketball in high school.
"Powell and McClaurin are not equals."
Cornell is well-built with a muscular frame and is tough to bring down when he tries to pick up extra yards. Powe can set up defenders with timing and smooth footwork. College coaches speak to the fact that he has matured and dedicated himself more as he got older. The first couple of years, he was going through the motions in practice. Then in his junior year, he came in ready to work every day.
Powell has only one season with starter-like production and didn't get a ton of work in the red zone. Some analysts have compared him to Terry McClaurin, but we don’t see the two close to equals.
The real upside is that Powell will be part of the Chiefs offense, and there is little competition at wide receiver. Even though he may be further up the wide receiver depth, he is probably 4th at best on the target list behind Travis Kelce, Tyrek Hill, Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Powell is worth a taxi squad stash solely on the fact that he was draft by Kansas City.
