" If he and Rodgers can get on the same page, watch out!"
Strengths:
Watson has a long, athletic frame and his gliding strides eat up space.
He tracks the ball well on deep routes with the ability to change gears.
In each of his four seasons at North Dakota State University, he averaged at least 18.3 yards per catch.
With a 92nd percentile vertical jump, he can pull down high targets and throws that are away from his body with those large hands.
Utilized on end-arounds and jet sweeps in college, he finishes with toughness.
Christian Watson is the only player in the FCS to score two kickoff return touchdowns during the season. He averaged 25.4 yards on 27 career kick returns.
Aaron Rodgers may have found a reliable target. When targeted, Watson's quarterback rating was 142.9.
He's an absolute playmaker; 32% of his plays went for 20 or more yards.
Weaknesses:
He could add some bulk, and an NFL weightlifting program will help.
Drops are always a concern, as he had 12 drops in his final two seasons.
Watson will need to work on his technique versus press coverage and has trouble with physical defensive backs.
He had multiple surgeries to repair cartilage in his knee and missed three games as a senior with a hamstring injury.
Watson wasn't highly recruited and was the 501st WR in his class.
North Dakota is a run-heavy offense, and he finished with 104 career receptions.
Coming from an FCS school makes you wonder about the competition he faced, but he did perform well at the Senior Bowl.
Drunk Thoughts
Watson has the perfect landing spot and the post-draft hype; we can't be any happier. The raw athletic numbers are insane. The Packers are known for finding wide receiver talent in the draft. The question is whether or not he can establish a connection with Aaron Rodgers. Davante Adams didn't break out until his third year, but Green Bay had a deeper wide receiver room than they do now. There is no reason Christian Watson can't be NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and the top rookie wide receiver.
