Our thoughts on 2022 NFL rookie Wide Receiver, Alec Pierce.

Measurables:

  • 6'3" 211 lbs.

  • 4.41 40-yard dash (90th percentile)

  • 40.5 Vertical jump (95th percentile)

  • 10'9" Broad jump (92nd percentile)

  • 95 percentile Speed Score

  • 94th percentile Burst Score

  • 96th percentile Catch Radius

"Those 50/50 balls become a little more 60/40, even 70/30." - Head Coach Luke Fickell

Strengths:

  • He is a tall, swift strider who can accelerate quickly and naturally tracks the ball.

  • Pierce is an all-around athlete as a high school high jumper and volleyball player.

  • At game speed, he looks graceful, and the game seems to slow down for him at the catch point.

  • He is a large target with strong hands for his quarterback resulting in a 117 quarterback rating when targeted.

  • He sneaks past jams with sharp footwork and uses that footwork as a gunner on special teams.

  • Alec broke the Cincinnati deadlift record for skill position players at a whopping 675 lbs.

  • 1st-team Academic All-American

Weaknesses:

  • He may be near maxed-out bulk-wise and has trouble versus physical corners due to average play strength.

  • Pierce displays average elusiveness, and examples of enormous gains after are few.

  • Due to his long strides, he doesn't display an ability to accelerate in small spaces.

  • Injuries could be an issue as he missed four games in 2020 after a knee scope, injured his left shoulder, and played with a brace.

  • He has only five 100-yd receiving games in 30 career starts and never had a 1,000-yard season despite having one of the better quarterbacks from this class.

  • 64% of his routes were Go, slants, or posts.

  • Alec has a drop rate slightly higher than the college average.

Drunk Thoughts

Alec Pierce looks like he can make a difference at the next level, and he landed on a team where he has a chance to see the second most team targets in his rookie league. Many people have made comparisons to Jordy Nelson, and Pierce looks like he has some of the same qualities. If you miss out on the top rookie wide receivers, Pierce provides upside in the second round of your rookie drafts.
